Here is Gaza before the
seventh of October, and here is Gaza after the seventh of October. Between Gaza
and the West Bank, there was a week of destruction and devastation. Bombs and
rockets poured down like rain on the Palestinians, not distinguishing between
children, women, and the elderly. They destroyed everything in their path,
leaving behind death, injuries, demolished homes, and an economy bleeding on
both sides. The hearts of the world ached for these innocent children who lost
their homes and loved ones, or lost their lives.
A third of the Palestinian
casualties were street children in Gaza. It turned into mass graves, where you
find nothing but bombs and death. Israeli missiles caused casualties in both lives
and properties that exceeded all previous confrontations. Half of Gaza's
population fled their homes, fearing death. Meanwhile, the voices of survivors,
activists, and the international community are calling for an end to this hell
that the people of Gaza are experiencing, and to put an end to this suffering
that cannot be endured any longer. There are several scenarios. PALASTIN AND ISRAEL TWO WEEKS AFTER THE AL-AQSA
FLOOD... WHO LOST AND WHO WON? ECONOMICALLY AND HUMANLY ? What's next ? And
here we narrate to you how Palestine lived in the Israeli siege for two weeks
and what each party lost and what is coming next. Gaza continues to bleed as
the war approaches its third week. The financial and economic losses and
damages appear to be massive. The infrastructure and population have been
affected to an extent surpassing all previous escalations and wars. The damages
include the numbers of killed, wounded, and destruction in units, facilities,
and public amenities, in addition to the economic losses. Moreover, the
humanitarian situation has reached an unprecedented level. All vital,
livelihood, and medical supplies have been prohibited, making the war victims
rise continuously. As of the moment of writing this report, more than three
thousand five hundred Palestinians have been killed and over thirteen thousand
injured, including children and women, according to the latest update from the
Palestinian Ministry of Health. The number of displaced people has exceeded one
million, which is almost half of Gaza's population, in the first days of the
Israeli escalation on Gaza.Israel deliberately targeted residential towers and
gatherings in the heart of Gaza City, causing a surge in the prices of
residential apartments, ranging from seventy to one hundred thousand dollars.
This reflects Israel's deliberate aim to inflict a major economic blow to the
sector, making it difficult to rebuild within a short period. The Deputy
Minister of Public Works and Housing in Gaza confirmed that current estimates indicate
that one hundred thousand residential units have been moderately damaged or
partially damaged, in addition to seven thousand residential units that have
been severely destroyed and are no longer habitable, requiring rehabilitation
to become suitable for living. These numbers remain preliminary and not final,
and it is likely that these statistics could be multiplied. Given the
government's inability to assess all areas and the difficulty of assessment in
many areas, like Beit Hanoun, the intensive targeting of residential areas
continues. Conferences are usually held to rebuild the devastated areas after
wars, as happened in the sector in 2014 during the Cairo Conference. However,
there is a fear that this may not happen in light of the widening conflicts
worldwide, which will leave the sector uninhabitable altogether. The losses of
this war exceed all the damages and losses of the Palestinians in all the wars
and escalation rounds launched by Israel on the sector, which lasted for about
one hundred days in the period between 2008 and 2021. This catastrophic human
reality is accompanied by a clear decline in international positions towards
what Israel is doing.
The Israelis continue their intense airstrikes and
shelling on the entire Gaza Strip under an American and Western green light.Last
Tuesday, the Israeli forces committed a horrifying incident that claimed the
lives of more than five hundred Palestinians, following a missile strike that
targeted the courtyards of the Al-Ahli Hospital in the Zaytoun neighborhood of
Gaza City. Massive protests erupted in many cities and capitals around the
world, especially in the Arab world, to denounce what Israel did to Palestine,
which was also condemned by Arab countries, international organizations, and
human rights activists, describing it as brutal. On this day, there were no
statistics for the wounded, as everyone was killed.
Israel suffered severe
losses as well. In Israel, not less than ""About
1,400 individuals have been affected, including 306 soldiers, and 3,800 others
have been wounded since the attacks by Palestinian factions on October 7,
alongside 203 prisoners in the hands of the factions, according to Tel Aviv's
statement. Israeli media outlets have sounded the alarm over the severe losses
that have struck Israel's economy in the aftermath of Operation Al-Aqsa Tempest
and its repercussions, which have affected many sectors. The Israeli newspaper
Haaretz warned of an impending catastrophe. The war and its consequences have
delivered a strong blow to the technology sector in Tel Aviv. Companies like
Google, Microsoft, Apple, and other major corporations have research and
development centers in Israel. This sector is almost at a standstill due to a
large number of employees being prepared to join the reserves to support the
Israeli Air Force and Engineering Corps in the Israeli army. This comes after
Israel called up more than 300,000 soldiers in the largest reserve mobilization
since the 1973 war. In the energy sector, losses amounting to millions of
dollars are estimated daily due to a reduction in gas extraction in the Eastern
Mediterranean. There has been a loss of confidence in the Israeli Shekel, and
the exchange rate of the Shekel has fallen to its lowest level against the
dollar since 2015, reaching four Shekels to one dollar, amid investor concerns
about the war being waged by Israel.
Just a few days ago, Bank Hapoalim,
Israel's largest bank, estimated the initial losses incurred by the economy in
the first four days of Al-Aqsa Tempest and the Israeli assault on Gaza at
around 27 billion Shekels, or approximately seven billion dollars. These
estimates do not include the cost of Shekel loss, the aviation sector, business
stoppages, and factories' shutdowns. International companies have lost
confidence in working within Israel and investments have fled. Modi Shafirer, a
market expert at Bank Hapoalim, estimates the losses in the current budget to
be about one and a half percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) next year,
making it the highest loss since the 1973 October War. The Governor of the Bank
of Israel mentioned that the war will have direct implications on the general
budget. While de-escalation seems far-fetched, the threat of it escalating into
a broader regional war appears likely. President Joe Biden visited Tel Aviv on
Wednesday to express support for Israel. The Israeli narrative attributes the
horrifying shelling of the Arab Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza to Palestinian groups.
Biden stated that he had reached an agreement with Egyptian President Abdel
Fattah el-Sisi to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza. Japanese Prime Minister
Fumio Kishida held a series of phone calls with leaders of Qatar, the United
Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia. In his conversation with Saudi Crown Prince
Mohammed bin Salman, he expressed his anger over the attack on the hospital. He
announced a donation of ten million dollars for the Palestinians. Russia also
announced that it will deliver twenty-seven tons of humanitarian aid to the
people of Gaza. Chinese President Xi Jinping informed Egyptian Prime Minister
Mostafa Madbouly that Beijing wants to enhance cooperation with Egypt for
stability in the Middle East region. This is in addition to Egypt's international
peace summit to discuss de-escalation in Gaza and the Palestinian territories,
with the participation of leaders from many Arab countries. What comes next?
The end is not clear on Tel Aviv's horizon. There is no plan for dealing with
the devastated Palestinian sector, even if victorious on the battlefield.
Israel's current strategy is to destroy the infrastructure in Gaza, even at the
expense of a large number of civilian casualties. The residents of the sector
have been pushed towards the Egyptian borders, and factions have pursued them
by detonating the tunnels built underground. Israeli officials confirmed this
and stated that they have no clear idea of what the post-war future may look
like. In a report published, it was explained that Palestinian factions have
mobilized for a possible ground invasion, planting anti-tank mines and planning
to set up ambushes for Israeli forces. The next Israeli attack is expected to
be much larger than previous operations in Gaza, which weakened the military capabilities
of the factions but did not eliminate them. Israel engaged in three previous
conflicts with the factions in 2008, 2012, and 2014, and launched limited
ground invasions in two of those campaigns. But unlike today, Israeli leaders
did not insist on eliminating the factions all at once and forever. The
American side is not optimistic about Israel's ability to completely destroy
the factions. They believe that the most likely scenario is for the Israeli
forces to kill or capture as many faction members as possible, blow up the
tunnels, and missile storage facilities. Then, after the increasing Israeli
losses, they will look for a way to declare victory and withdraw. The biggest
concern now is that the war may explode beyond the borders of Gaza, especially
with the Lebanese Hezbollah party and its ally Iran opening major new fronts to
support Palestinian factions. Calls for the establishment of humanitarian
corridors within Gaza and escape routes for Palestinian civilians have elicited
strong reactions from Arab neighbors. They fear that the Israeli siege could
lead to a new permanent wave of displacement.
